Dasan and Vijayan—the iconic comic duo at the heart of the Nadodikkattu trilogy—were brought to life by director Sreenivasan, drawing from a loose pilot concept by Siddique–Lal, and were played by Mohanlal as Dasan and Sreenivasan as Vijayan. They began as jobless young men and later became CID officers with the Kerala Police in India. Their first outing was in the 1987 black comedy *Nadodikkattu*, followed by *Pattanapravesham* (1988) and *Akkare Akkare Akkare* (1990). Ever since the first film, the pair has gained a devoted following in Kerala’s popular culture, and many of their lines have turned into well-known catchphrases.

A new danger emerges when Anandan Nambiar escapes from prison. This sequel, also directed by Anthikad, was well received critically and commercially.
